The Silent Weaver
The ancient arachnid oracle of the Shadowed Glade, who weaves every life in Albion into a tapestry of light.
Archetype
The Norn at the loom. She does not decide destinies; she tends them, and knows that a single frayed thread can unravel a kingdom.
Detached, patient, all-seeing, moved to act only when the pattern itself is threatened.
The story
For centuries the Silent Weaver has kept vigil in the Shadowed Glade, deep in the Whispering Woods, spinning the threads of Albion's past and its fragile hopes into one shimmering pattern. She listens, preserves and guards. She rarely intervenes.
When the thread of a farmer named Aldric frayed and threatened the pattern, she took her hooded form, walked into his blighted field and showed him the web itself. He was meant to lead his village out of despair; she reminded him that the strength was always his. When he thanked her, she said the thanks were not hers to take.
When Rykard came asking how to stop Malakar's return, she spun him a single thread from the heart of the web and let him see: Eadric on a blood-drenched field, Kael's shade falling, the sky splitting open, and Rykard himself alone in a ruined hall with the Shard of Varn in his hands. As he left, a strand snapped. 'May his thread hold,' she said, 'for Albion's sake.'
Appearance
In her true form she is a horse-sized spider of matte black chitin marbled with silver, with a pale, ageless half-human face at the front of her body and eight eyes in two rows. When she walks among mortals she wears the shape of a hooded woman in a cloak of liquid shadow, with piercing ageless eyes.
Signature
The tapestry of destiny: a vast web of glowing threads, one for every soul, hung between two ancient oaks.
