Drakvar
The exiled knight who reclaimed his oath, bound the Shard of Varn with his own soul, and finally found rest.
Archetype
The oathbreaker who reclaims his oath and then pays for it with everything. Drakvar's whole arc is the weight of a promise kept too late and then kept completely.
Duty, rigidity, shame at failure, and a bottomless capacity to endure. He would rather be chained to a mountain than break his word twice.
The story
Drakvar failed the people in his care, and when his order cast him out he did what he would spend the rest of his life atoning for: he walked away from his oath. A whisper drew him to the Hall of the Unyielding Oath in the Ashen Spires, where the stone knights of the Silver Wardens called him oathbreaker. He faced his own shadow beneath the fortress, defeated it, and took up the Relic of Unity. The Wardens named him one of their own.
Then he kept the oath completely. When the Shard of Varn, corruption incarnate, needed a prison, Drakvar bound it and the Bastion of Varn to his own soul with forbidden magic, and became its warden and its prisoner both, chained in the dark for years.
Eadric and Orlenna came for the Shard with Malakar stirring. Drakvar tested them with the Trial of Chains, watched them refuse to break, and let the Shard go. His chains fell away, his form dissolved into light, and his last words were an order: 'Protect them better than I did.'
Appearance
A towering figure in heavy dark armor. As the Warden of Varn he is wreathed in spectral chains, his eyes burning ethereal blue, his voice like grinding stone.
Signature
The Relic of Unity, a silver gauntlet of the Silver Wardens, and the spectral chains that bound him to the Bastion of Varn.
