The story

Eadric brought Loric to the Gate of Shadows at the edge of Blackmere and told him he had to cross alone. In the Evershade he fought a bloated mirror of himself, wolves with eyes of fire, and a beast wearing his own face. Inside its jaws he found a ten-year-old boy who said he was sorry for being so scared. 'We're not scared anymore,' Loric told him. 'We're stronger now.' He came back a Dragon Slayer in the making, and learned from his mentor that some dragons cannot be slain, only carried.
